At Chadsmead Primary Academy, we recognise the critical importance of equipping our children with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Our online safety curriculum, which is firmly rooted in the 'Education for a Connected World' framework, aims to empower our pupils to become confident, discerning, and ethical digital citizens. This is taught at the beginning of each Computing lesson.
The National Curriculum for computing requires schools to ensure that pupils "use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies." Our online safety curriculum directly addresses these statutory requirements, providing a comprehensive and progressive approach to teaching these essential skills.
Our curriculum is aspirational in its scope, going beyond the basic requirements to equip our pupils with a deep understanding of online safety principles. We cover a wide range of topics, including online relationships, self-image and identity, online reputation, online bullying, managing online information, health, wellbeing and lifestyle, and privacy and security. This holistic approach ensures that our children develop the critical thinking skills and resilience needed to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape.
