At Chadsmead, we want every child to enjoy Computing and feel confident, creative and responsible when using technology. By the end of Year 6, pupils will understand how computers and the internet work and be able to use technology independently, safely and for a range of purposes.
We aim to develop creators—not just consumers—of digital content. Our curriculum covers:
  • Coding & Computational Thinking
  • Information Technology
  • Computing Systems & Networks
  • Online Safety
We teach pupils to make positive, safe choices online and use technology confidently in a rapidly changing world.
Computing is taught each week, with lessons carefully sequenced to build on prior knowledge and skills. Every lesson begins with an Online Safety focus, and pupils regularly revisit key ideas through retrieval activities. We use Teach Computing as the core of our curriculum, supported by Project Evolve for Online Safety and Barefoot Computing for unplugged activities in EYFS. Units meet all National Curriculum requirements and ensure clear progression from year to year. Online Safety is mapped to the Education for a Connected World framework.

The impact of our Computing curriculum is that we provide pupils with a set of skills to embed a lifelong love of learning and that they build on the knowledge and skills from previous learning. We ensure that every child can become a confident user of technology, while being able to use it to accomplish a wide variety of goals, both at home and in school. Children will have a secure and comprehensive knowledge of how technology works in the world around them and will develop their understanding of how to deal with online situations safely. Children will become confident global citizens.
