Computing

Our children have a stand-alone computing lesson for 1 hour every week.  This is where they learn computing skills.  As they move through the school there is a clear progression of skills.  Each year the children will be taught units that cover these topics:

  • Programming
  • Computational thinking
  • Creativity
  • Computer networks
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Productivity
  • Online Safety

The children solve real-life problems using digital technology.  They are encouraged to apply their knowledge in both verbal and written forms and to produce tangible outcomes.

We use a range of readily available or free software in lessons (such as Paint and iMovie, to scratch and Kodu), this allows the learning to be transferred to the home easily, should you wish to.

The children also use their computing skills as part of other lessons such as theme.  This is where they have already been taught the skill in a computing lesson but are applying that skill to help achieve another objective across the curriculum.

Please see the computing overview for the topics studied. As with theme the curriculum is spread across 2 years in cycles.

Cycle 1: 2018/19, 2020/21

Cycle 2: 2019/20, 2021/22
